Wind Turbines

Wind turbine farm at Redcar in North Sea

The 27 wind turbines at Teesside Wind Farm

Wind Turbines are a bone of contention for the aviation industry as much as they are welcomed for clean energy, and they are only going to increase in number world wide, as we move to decarbonisation.

These 27 Wind Turbines are part of the Teesside (or Redcar) Wind Farm, off the North Yorkshire coast in England. This is the area where Fly-by NUNES Ltd. offices are situated. To blade tip, these Wind Turbines are 126.2m high. They represent many such Wind Farms that are placed in the sea, some are as high as 260m.

You may think these to be well situated away from any nearby airport, however, for example, these are only around 25.5km (13.8NM) from Teesside International Airport. That might sound far but Flight Procedure Safeguarding Assessments look at Approaches, Departures, Missed Approaches, Holding Patterns and Related Manoeuvres or Areas, established for an airport, including and sometimes exceeding 56km (30NM) protection areas.

We conduct such assessments against the published flight procedures, for the energy and airport sector, and such studies are normally required for planning permission, and airport permission before construction. Contact us for more information.
